Do you want to improve your Bible skills and grow your knowledge in God's Word but don't know how? Thankfully, you've found this post. Based on my experience, I will provide some easy tips for studying the Holy Bible. Everyone is different, so let Jesus be your guide. I pray this helps!
Tip 1: Repent
Ask God to forgive your trespasses. When studying God's Word, you don't want anything to hinder you from understanding. You want a pure heart and a clear mind to hear God's voice easily.
Tip 2: Cut out distractions
When spending time with God, YOU DON'T WANT ANY DISTRACTIONS! Which means deleting social media, turning off the TV, putting your phone on silent, do not disturb, or turning your phone off completely. Personally, doing these things has helped me. Eliminating distractions will help you engage in God's Word and will help you spend quality time with Him. If you constantly check your phone, how can you retain what God is communicating with you? Your time with God will be useless because instead of focusing on The Scriptures, you are focusing on what your friends posted on social media. If you do not understand God's Word, what good does it do to read it? We want to retain the information given to us!
Tip 3: Feel free to do your research!
If you do not know the meaning of a word in the Bible, do not gloss over it and pretend as if it's not there. Look it up! There is no need to be hung up on the meaning of a word when we have technology. We have access to online dictionaries, and most Bibles have a dictionary! There are many different versions of the Holy Bible. If you do not understand the Old KJV, read the New one or the New Americanized Versions. There are a lot of beginner-friendly Bibles that are very easy to comprehend. Online tools also help understand the meaning of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew words in the Bible. Some apps provide historical dates of when events in the Holy Bible took place. By doing further research, ensure your online tools are legit by comparing them to your Bible, other apps, and sites. Remember that many tools are available today to help us further our Biblical knowledge, so don't be afraid to use them.
Tip 4: Study!
Now, how will you study The Word of God if you do not sit down, take notes, and annotate it? If something sticks out to you, annotate it! If God has laid a message on your heart, write it down! If you are a visionary learner, draw illustrations or diagrams to help you fully understand! The Word has been gifted to us for encouragement and direction! Leave encouraging notes for yourself. If you feel your mind wanders, re-read The Scripture(s) until you understand. Sometimes, it may take days or weeks to click, but don't give up on Him! It is better to gain wisdom than to lack it, so do what works best for you!
Tip 5: Ask God for clarity
If there is a Book/Scripture in the Bible that you are really hung up on, pray and fast about it! Ask Him for wisdom, knowledge, and understanding in His Word, and He will give it to you. God does not want His child to lack wisdom. God wants us to understand Him, and by seeking Him for the answers, He will surely reveal them to us!
Tip 6: Let God be your guide
From my own experience, I started reading the Bible from the beginning. My goal was to begin with the Old Testament and then go to the New Testament in order. But God had other plans. After completing the Book of Genesis, God led me straight into the New Testament. God leads me to the Scriptures that He wants me to focus on at that specific time. You may want to start with a particular chapter, and eventually, God may lead you in another direction, as He did with me. He knows what you need to hear and directs you to where you need to go.
In conclusion, Brothers and sisters, follow God, retain what you have learned, and put it into practice—in Jesus' name.
